MJC Women's Soccer Ranks 4th Nationally
MJC Women's Soccer ranked 4th in the newest Junior College Division III Poll from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They were previously ranked seventh in the poll last week. Cerritos College topped the poll ranking with the top spot.
MJC women's Soccer also ranked sixth in the first 2014 California Community College Rankings that was released early this week. They are tied for first with Fresno City College (7-0-2) in the Northern California Poll. The Pirates are a perfect 9-0 on the year and are tied for first in the Big 8 with Sierra College.
Southern California community college, Cerritos college ranked first in the state and are currently on a 18 game winning streak from last season. There are three other Big 8 schools ranked in the Northern California Poll: Sierra, Santa Rosa, and Delta College.
MJC defeated Diablo Valley College on September 30th with Marissa Rouse scoring two goals in the first half to secure the win. MJC has averaged 4.6 goals per game totaling 41 goals in nine games. Fourteen different players have scored for the Pirates, with Yaritza Arista leading the team with eight goals an twenty one points. Jenna Viss leads the team with six assists. Goal keeper Elizabeth Amaya has only allowed four goals on the season recording 31 saves and contributed to five shutouts. Fifteen different players have recorded an assist and twenty one players have had at least one point. MJC plays American River at home on October 1st before facing Santa Rosa on October 3rd.
